About

Last updated:

  • Awhile is a self-help site for times when you're feeling low.
  • This is not a medical service and does not replace professional care.
  • What you write stays on this device, unless you save a backup file yourself.
  • If you're in danger now, call your local emergency number or see the helplines.

What this is

It's a self-help site for low days and hard moments.

It has a few steps to help you calm down, a safety plan you can open any time, a simple mood log, and helplines for different places.

Not a medical service

This is not a medical service and does not replace professional care.

Nothing here is a diagnosis, and the site can't tell how serious things are for you. If you're worried about how you're going, you could talk with a GP or a mental health professional.

No treatment relationship

Using this site doesn't create a professional or treatment relationship between you and us. We can't see what you write, and we won't contact you to check in.

Who runs it

This site is run by 〔operator〕.

Our principles

A few things guide how we build this site:

  • No tracking: we haven't added analytics, ads or trackers, and there's no account to sign up for.
  • What you write stays on this device, unless you save a backup file yourself.
  • No pressure: no streaks and no badges.
  • Nothing here needs a login. Once you've opened the site online, it usually works offline too, but it's safest to save your local helpline number in your phone.

What we drew on

We drew on the sources below when writing. This doesn't mean these organisations or authors have reviewed or endorsed this site.

  • The Mindframe guidelines (Australia), on talking about mental health responsibly
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) mhGAP guidance
  • NICE guideline NG222 (UK): Depression in adults: treatment and management
  • The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) clinical practice guidelines
  • Lejuez and colleagues (2001), a behavioural activation treatment manual

Helplines for each place are on the helplines page. If your area isn't listed, you can search findahelpline.com.
